Many plants traditionally used in various cultures have been associated with support for cognitive well-being. Some of them, such as lesser periwinkle (Vinca minor), are rich in alkaloids such as vincamine — a precursor of vinpocetine — and have been studied for their biological activity. However, they can also be potentially toxic if misused. In the EU, vinpocetine is regulated as a prescription-only substance. In the U.S., vinpocetine derived from this plant is allowed as a dietary supplement ingredient.
Other botanicals traditionally valued for supporting memory and cognition include:
- Bacopa monnieri – used for centuries in Ayurveda to support memory and concentration;
- Ginkgo biloba – traditionally used to support circulation and cognitive function;
- Huperzia serrata – a source of the alkaloid huperzine A, currently under scientific investigation for its role in supporting the nervous system.
The original U.S. formula of 4Life Transfer Factor Recall included vinpocetine. However, this ingredient is not allowed in dietary supplements within the European Union and is only available by prescription as a drug.
To comply with European regulations, the manufacturer – 4Life Research – modified the formula while maintaining its purpose. The current European version of Transfer Factor Recall does not contain vinpocetine but includes extracts of Bacopa monnieri, Ginkgo biloba and Huperzia serrata, making it an interesting choice for those looking to enrich their diet with nutrients traditionally used to support mental performance.
Although dietary supplements cannot be claimed to cure or prevent any disease, the ingredients used in this product have a long history of traditional use in cognitive support.
The formula also contains magnesium, which:
- contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system,
- supports normal psychological function,
- helps maintain normal muscle function,
- contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

The best way to find out if this dietary supplement fits your daily routine is to try it, after consulting your doctor, especially if you take medication or have any health conditions. As the manufacturer states on the label, this applies in particular to people taking anticoagulants — they should consult their doctor before using this product.
